This is a civil war era - it is a cover the buckle - for bridle buckles  and also for the smaller harness - it is brass - I will let the new owners to clean it up -  it was protection of the buckle in war time  -them it become décor for status. It is usable and also a person can put into a collection. Size is 2" in length x 1¾" in width x ½" height .
