Description

ORIGINAL GERMAN POP-ART CERAMIC MODERNIST CAKE PLATE  c 1960. Exquisite German cake plate with the three firing kiln marks still on the back that show hand fired. Divided into a cake with octagonal abstract design a technique used for even cutting of cake slices into eight slices.  Never used only admired. The use of turquoise as a border is unusual (very postmodern late 50's color) and serves as a frame for the center design. Bottom is inscribed HERBOLZHEIM 256  ̶  30 and the letter B.  Herbolzheim is a small town in Germany close to the French border. This ceramic factory was in existence from 1957-1991.
