Description
This is a very fine mid-18th century Georgian sterling silver gravy or sauce boat with a double scroll handle, hoof feet and scalloped edge. It remains in pristine condition with beautiful repousse work, or embossing. There is a vacant cartouche on one side and one on the other side filled with four leaves. The condition is excellent, with no dents or dings or repairs or damage, but only the light marks of polishing over the centuries. The date mark is a little rubbed but I am pretty sure it is for 1766. Fully hallmarked for London with a maker's mark of a diamond, on top of which is a K over a D on the left and a letter I can't make out on the right and at the bottom of the diamond is an H. With 3 out of 4 letters of the maker's mark readable and clear it should be easy enough to find out the makers names.
Dimensions: 5 5/8" long (handle to spout), 3 1/8" wide and 4 3/8" to the top of the handle. Weight is 5.32 regular ounces.
