    Description

Fine 1788 English Georgian Sterling Silver Gravy or Sauce Boat w Nice Crest
Presented is a handsome English Georgian sterling silver gravy boat or sauce
boat. This piece was made by Edward Fernell and dates to 1788. The boat is made
in a classical form, with three hoof form feet and scallop shell decorations
where the legs join the body. The handle is done in a flying C scroll design,
with almost an Onslow type design at the tip. One side of the gravy boat has a
finely hand engraved crest of a demi cock displayed. The piece is a good solid
    weight and quite well made.
This piece is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the
leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter n for 1788, the
duty stamp of King George III's head, and the maker's mark of EF for Edward
    Fernell
This piece is in great overall condition. There is one small split at the low
point of one of the scallops in the rim, on one side, with a little pinpoint
ding underneath. This is very hard to notice without careful inspection. There
are no other splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The gravy boat measures about 6 1/2 inches from spout to handle and stands
about 4 3/8 inches tall at the tallest point.
This piece weighs 216 grams or 7.6 regular ounces.
