Civil War Confederate Altered Belt with Pattern 1839 US Buckle Attached

Description

Pattern 1851 leather waist belt with sewn loop on one end, measuring approximately 39.5 inches. The end of the sewn loop side of the belt also has three adjustment size holes. This area of the belt has also been reinforced with an approximate 7 inch long piece of leather taken from a NCO or officer's leather belt. From the size and careful stitching of the reinforcement, it appears this was done at a Southern arsenal or supply depot and not an actual field repair. The US would likely discard broken belts as they were so much easier to come across and reissue to its soldiers. Surface loss to the leather is present, yet still feels strong. The attached plate is a m1839 US puppy paw buckle with all attachment hooks. All lead is present on the back with a nice face. Overall this is a nice, interesting-looking belt that was definitely used. It is hard to say if the belt plate was added over time or if it was actually used and possibly worn upside down to symbolize the Southern Nation display, which was typical. I cannot make that definite assumption. Please see pictures.
