BEATLES-RARE ORIGINAL-WMCA GOOD GUYS / I Want To Hold Your Hand-PictureSleeve.Condition: A conservative GOOD
One seam is unglued and the others have slits. Small tears across top edge. Some wringwear and discoloration but NO writing or stains. I have included a ton of pictures for description purposes.
This is one of a handful of the remaining copies of this incredibly rare, Beatles custom 45rpm picture sleeve known to exist.
1000 copies were ordered in early 1964 by radio station WMCA in New York city to be given away to lucky winners of a contest promoting the Beatles and their first number one single in America, "I Want to Hold Your Hand".
The A side of the sleeve features the same picture of the band as in typical east coast issues of the single, but the "I Saw Her Standing There" side picture is replaced with a picture of six DJ's, the "WMCA good guys".
The story goes, while 1000 copies were ordered less than half that number were produced and delivered. So imagine what it was like being a teenager during BEATLEMANIA, winning one of these record sleeves and you can understand why there's believed to be only a few of them left to exist!
Short bio:
I'm 66yr old and collected records/memorabilia for over 50yr.
I'm handing down alot to my collection to my kids and selling what they don't want.
This item was purchased from an estate in upstate NY some years ago before it's value was known. It's time to pass it on to someone who will hopefully enjoy it as much as I have.
Questions will be answered ASAP.
