At the time of the Sarmatian nomads, mirrors were not so much a toilet item as a cult and even magical artifact. The possession of a mirror repeatedly increased the social status of its owner among the tribesmen. The valuable artifact was often left in burials, so that archaeologists periodically find mirrors in the necropolises of representatives of the nobility of the steppe nomads.
Immediately it is worth noting that the bronze mirrors in the times of the Sarmatians, Saks and Scythians-in ancient times, significantly differed from those known to our contemporaries. The ancients at that time did not know the technology of using glass, that is, the mirrors were a perfectly polished bronze disk . Sometimes the product was complemented by a handle, some mirrors were framed with forged jewelry, various monograms and other decorative elements.
A remarkable discovery of scientists was the chemical composition of the metal from which the mirrors were made. It turned out that the distinctive properties of each of the artifacts found on the territory from Siberia to the Black Sea coast, including in the Urals, was an increased tin content than in other bronze products, more than 30%! An important detail: the presence of tin in the composition made it possible to get the same "mirror effect" in the finished product, besides giving the mirror greater strength and preserving the polish longer.
